Tag Recoveries
The most important action that anglers can take to aid any tagging program is to report all fish caught with tags. As soon as a tagged fish is caught, the following information should be reported:
- Date
- Tag number
- Species of fish
- Fork Length (distance from the fork of the tail to the tip of the mouth)
- Location
- Time
- Weight
Please call 735-8290 on O’ahu as soon as possible to report this information. A dedicated telephone line has been established to take calls and receive messages. Information on the specific location where fish are caught will be kept confidential.
Tagged Fish should then be gently released. Fish showing undue stress, damage or inability to swim should not be released even if they are tagged. When fish cannot be released, keep it on ice and please call 735-8290 so the fish can be used in a diet and growth study.
